About The Position

The Veterinary Technician 1 (VT1) provides surgery assistance, performs treatments, and presents treatment plans to pet parents, putting compassionate care and clinical excellence at the forefront.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • State-issued active/current Veterinary Technician license required.
  • 2+ years of experience in veterinary medicine required.
  • 1+ years of surgery experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general surgery assistance during all surgical procedures.
  • Performs basic treatments, restraints, and assists with cleaning of treatment area as needed.
  • Prepares surgical suite and anesthetic machine for procedures.
  • Properly cleans surgery suite post-op according to Lovet standard operating procedures.
  • Prepares pets for procedures, including performing pre- and post-op lab tests and prepping surgical sites for procedures.
  • Monitors anesthesia during procedure and pets’ vital parameters perioperatively.
  • Provides post-operative care as needed, including extubating.
  • Maintains appropriate and safe anesthetic depth.
  • Performs intubation and induction of anesthesia.
  • Prepares and administers injectable medications.
  • Sets IV catheters and performs venipuncture.
  • Removes sutures, drains, and staples.
  • Apply simple bandages as needed.
  • Implants microchips.
  • Take x-rays, pre and post op as needed.
  • Performs CPR as needed.
  • Takes rooms and presents treatment plans, following Lovet clinical and operational guidelines.
  • Complete and thorough documentation of surgical procedures, anesthesia monitoring, post operative care, client communication, etc.
  • Ensures post operative discharge instructions, medications, and all items to go home with pet are prepared.
  • Delivers client communication regarding the surgical procedure perioperatively, provides outstanding customer service
  • Complies with individual hospital protocols and procedures, maintains open communication with onsite medical team regarding ongoing procedures and pets’ needs
  • Schedule surgical procedures, consultations, and follow-up appointments across multiple locations.
  • Maintain accurate records of scheduled surgeries, including patient information, surgical procedures, and follow-up care.
  • Acts as a brand ambassador, always exhibiting the AZPV core values.
  • Ensures adherence to all AZPV policies and procedures, workflows, and protocols.
  • Follows all regulatory guidelines and requirements to ensure a safe and compliant workplace environment.
  • Checks individual and hospital email throughout the hospital shift.
  • Responds to individual and hospital emails in accordance with Lovet communication standards.
  • Attends continuing education courses and stays up to date on the latest advances in veterinary medicine while maintaining appropriate licensure.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
