TheVeterinary Technician is responsible for providing the care, examination, evaluation, and treatment of animals in accordance with established policies and under the direction of veterinarians. Requirements

Experience as a Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician certification or related schooling required.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail, multi-tasking and time-management skills.
Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
Must be able to lift, carry, and handle animals and other items up to 50 lbs. unassisted. For animals and other items over 50 lbs., assistance from another team member is required.
Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Ability to be emotionally resilient while working in a shelter setting.
Must be comfortable handling a variety of animals with a wide range of behavioral and medical needs, including the use of humane euthanasia.
Reliable transportation required.
Required to be on time to scheduled shifts during operational hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Attend and participate in regular team meetings and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.
May be required to work at a different site based on department needs.
May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.

Responsibilities

Perform daily treatments, administer medication, and monitor shelter animals in accordance with shelter policy and under the direction of veterinarians.
Complete medical procedures and assist veterinarians in surgical procedures following established protocols.
Evaluate incoming animals for possible placement, including physical exams and behavior evaluations.
Process fostered animal returns and release.
Humanely euthanize animals which are not a candidate for adoption or upon request of owner.
Work collaboratively with other staff and departments to ensure animals are being cared for properly and moving through the system efficiently.
Greet customers as they arrive for scheduled appointments.
Provide customer counseling on results of the evaluation process, which could include providing additional re-homing resources or humane euthanasia for animals not viable for adoption.
Ensure appointments are completed in a timely manner.
Collect appropriate fees from customers.
Schedule walk-in customers for stray animals or emergency appointments.
Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.
Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.
Accurately update animal records in PetPoint.
Manage and view work schedule in Makeshift.
Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.
Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
Other duties as assigned.
