About The Position

Under the direction of the Shelter Veterinarian/Clinic Supervisor, this position will assist with assuring the medical health and well-being of shelter animals, including but not limited to assisting with surgical procedures, preparing surgical instruments, entering data into computerized medical database, administering vaccinations and medications, performing diagnostic tests, assisting with euthanasia, maintaining the facility in a clean and orderly manner incompliance with shelter protocols, and utilizing knowledge of medical, behavioral and general care protocols for the health and well-being of the animals. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience in animal welfare and shelter operations or high-volume spay/neuter clinics preferred
  • Veterinary Technician Certification preferred but will consider applicant with equivalent experience
  • Must be skilled in animal handling and have general knowledge of a variety of animal species and their health, care, behavior, common diseases, and medical conditions, and behavior
  • Proficient in oral and written communication, computer usage and the use of basic computer programs, with a strong customer service background and the ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Understanding of veterinary terminology, procedures and animal health issues, and possess knowledge of veterinary surgical operations, monitoring, preparation and equipment including drugs and instruments
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and complete required NIMS level training within the first six months of hire
  • Strength and agility sufficient to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to handle and control animals of various species, size and temperament, including aggressive and dangerous animals
  • Standing on feet for 8 hours per day
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and animal handling
