About The Position

The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) at Coastal Animal Referral Emergency (CARE) plays a crucial role in providing high-quality care to companion animals. This position involves direct client communication, patient care, and training of veterinary assistants, ensuring that all medical procedures are performed to the highest standards. Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician Certificate (required)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (required)
  • 2 years of experience in a veterinary hospital setting (required)
  • 1 year of experience in an emergency veterinary hospital setting (preferred)
  • Familiarity with DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Address client medical questions and provide updates for hospitalized patients.
  • Safely restrain animals and assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, administer anesthesia, and monitor them during surgery and recovery.
  • Monitor and provide treatment to hospitalized patients, alerting veterinarians to any changes in condition.
  • Maintain surgical materials and instruments, and report any defective equipment.
  • Assist with dispensing medications and preparing prescription labels.
  • Follow safety guidelines and administer injections, perform laboratory tests, and conduct emergency treatments.
  • Triage patients and assess their critical nature, obtaining necessary permissions and vital signs.
  • Create SOAP documents and input subjective information during the triage process.
  • Monitor ICU patients for pain and discomfort, ensuring timely treatments and alerting doctors of any changes.
