About The Position

VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital is a leader in advanced veterinary specialty care and education. We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Anesthesia & Analgesia to join our highly skilled Anesthesia team. The ideal candidate will bring advanced technical expertise, clinical leadership, and a passion for mentoring others. As a VTS, you'll partner closely with our surgeons and specialty departments to provide advanced anesthetic management and drive excellence in patient care, safety, and education.

Requirements

  • VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia) required
  • Minimum 2+ years of anesthesia experience in a specialty or referral setting.
  • Exceptional technical, leadership, and teaching skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple specialty teams.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, mentoring, and professional excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex anesthesia cases and provide expertise across Surgery, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, and ECC.
  • Develop and refine anesthetic protocols utilizing a multimodal approach to ensure patient comfort and positive patient outcomes.
  • Train and mentor RVTs pursuing their VTS credential, fostering technical growth and case-based learning.
  • Assist in teaching, CE sessions, and hands-on workshops for technicians and assistants.
  • Ensure accurate and complete anesthesia documentation and patient records within WoofWare and Smartflow.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to uphold consistency, efficiency, and high standards of medical care.
  • Support advanced analgesic management, including regional anesthesia and multimodal pain control.
  • Promote best practices in anesthesia safety, monitoring, and recovery.
  • Collaborate with RVTs, CST, and Assistants within the department.
