About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician in Ophthalmology. As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals. This position involves performing both basic and advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests, assisting with procedures and surgeries, and educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care.

Requirements

• Experience as a Veterinary Technician, preferably in ophthalmology.
• Ability to perform basic and advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests.
• Skills in assisting with surgical procedures and anesthesia monitoring.
• Strong communication skills for client education.

Nice To Haves

• Anesthesia training or experience.
• Previous experience in a specialty or emergency veterinary setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam.
• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.).
• Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries.
• Assist with outpatient procedures such as diamond burr debridement and CO2 laser treatments.
• Assist with surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, and retinal surgery.
• For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various routes, and perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia.
• Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies.
• Educate clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care.
