About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh (North Hills), PA is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician in Ophthalmology. As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals. The pay for this position ranges from $20.00 to $40.50 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through the leveling system. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience. Competitive shift differential pay is also offered for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

Requirements

• Experience as a Veterinary Technician, preferably in an ophthalmology setting.
• Ability to perform basic and advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests.
• Skills in assisting with surgical procedures and anesthesia monitoring.
• Strong communication skills for educating clients.

Nice To Haves

• VTS credentialing in ophthalmology.
• Previous experience in a specialty or emergency veterinary setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam.
• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.).
• Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries.
• Assist with outpatient procedures such as diamond burr debridement and CO2 laser treatments.
• Assist with surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, and glaucoma surgery.
• For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various routes, and perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia.
• Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies.
• Educate clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care.
