About The Position

As a Veterinary Oncology Technician at MVA, you will be at the heart of patient care, supporting both pets and their people often during challenging times. In this role, you will prepare and administer chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive medications following strict safety protocols. You will monitor patients pre- and post-treatment, carefully tracking vital signs, potential side effects, and overall comfort. Collaborating with oncologists and fellow technicians, you will develop and update personalized treatment plans, ensuring the highest standard of care. Additionally, you will provide compassionate client communication, including education about treatment options, home care, and ongoing symptom management. You will assist with diagnostic procedures such as blood draws, imaging (radiographs, CT, MRI), and sample collection for cytology or histopathology. Supporting the emotional well-being of clients and team members is also a key aspect of this role, recognizing the sensitivity and challenges involved in oncology cases.

Requirements

  • 1+ years in a specialty, oncology, or high-volume veterinary setting.
  • Holds a current CVT/LVT/RVT (or educational equivalency).
  • A strong understanding of chemotherapy safety protocols, including handling and administration.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in educating and supporting clients during stressful or emotional situations.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, and anesthesia/monitoring.
  • Familiarity with advanced diagnostic tools (radiographs, CT, MRI) and laboratory procedures.
  • Empathy, resilience, and a team-focused attitude.
  • Embraces Fear Free handling to ensure safe, stress-free interactions for patients, clients, and the team.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning, staying up to date on new treatments and best practices in veterinary oncology.
