About The Position

Requirements

• Experience as a veterinary technician, preferably in a neurology setting.
• Strong understanding of veterinary medical math.
• Ability to monitor and recover anesthesia.
• Experience with MRI and CT procedures.
• Excellent client communication skills.
• Ability to perform physical exams and understand vital parameters.
• Comfort with IVC placement and venipuncture.

Nice To Haves

• Certification as a veterinary technician.
• Previous experience in a specialty or emergency veterinary hospital.

Responsibilities

• Set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
• Calculates all medical math including advanced and CRI (mcg/mg, %/mg, etc).
• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia.
• Set up for MRI and CT procedures.
• Discharge neuro patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as manual bladder expression, sling walking, range of motion, etc.
• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Perform call backs and refill medications.
• Client education, gathering histories and communicating that to the Clinician.
• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters.
• Comfortable with IVC placement and venipuncture.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Restrain patients during consults and during diagnostics.
