About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Malvern, PA is hiring an extraordinary Medical Oncology Veterinary Technician! As a Medical Oncology Technician, you will perform physical exams, accurately count heart and pulse rates, and understand normal vital and lab parameters. You will be responsible for performing phlebotomy, placing peripheral intravenous catheters, calculating basic medical math, and setting up materials for chemotherapy administration. You will also safely dispense and administer oral and injectable chemotherapy agents, check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages, and properly prepare patients for chemotherapy infusion. Additionally, you will admit and discharge oncology patients, maintain a solid grasp of veterinary medical terms, address client concerns, and facilitate incoming calls. You will assist with anesthesia and monitoring equipment and maintain the hospital's day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical exams and accurately count heart and pulse rates.
  • Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
  • Perform phlebotomy and place peripheral intravenous catheters.
  • Calculate basic medical math.
  • Set up materials for chemotherapy administration.
  • Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
  • Safely dispense, reconstitute, and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
  • Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
  • Properly shave and wrap for IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.
  • Admit oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications and dosages.
  • Discharge oncology patients with basic client education.
  • Maintain a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms.
  • Address client concerns and answer them appropriately.
  • Facilitate incoming calls competently.
  • Have knowledge of tumor types and diagnostic work-up protocols.
  • Assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines.
  • Maintain hospital for day-to-day function and operation.
