We practice comprehensive medicine. Previous surgery and dentistry experience are preferred but we're willing to train the right candidate!

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for a team of technicians and assistants that you work with on a given shift.
  • One-on-one mentoring and coaching of other veterinary assistants and technicians, including formal Quarterly Development Meetings.
  • Be available and approachable for questions from fellow veterinary assistants and technicians, doctors, kennel assistants, and CSRs.
  • Communicate expectations for performance, delegate tasks when needed, and guide other veterinary assistants and technicians in coordinating patient care and client communications.
  • Communicate challenges and performance problems with the Practice Manager and Medical Director and provide feedback and ideas for improvement.
  • Communicate progress of ongoing projects, challenges being addressed, and other important updates to veterinary assistants and technicians.
  • Develop and oversee completion of projects benefiting the hospital, our patients, our clients, or our community.
  • Ensure all assistants and technicians are aware of and follow proper safety procedures, including reporting of injuries.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping for assistant and technician work areas.
  • Delegate and coordinate tasks when multiple competing needs are present.
  • Provide leadership for technician and assistant meetings.
  • Be a liaison between staff and management and facilitate communication between various departments.
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to teammates in an appropriate, respectful, and helpful manner.
  • Create and document Standard Operating Procedures for processes and tasks pertaining to the duties of a veterinary assistant or technician.
  • Monitor staff throughout the shift, encourage productivity, and discourage detrimental behaviors.
  • Provide feedback on candidates interviewing for open positions.
  • Direct and support on-the-job training for new hires.
  • Discuss disciplinary actions needed with the Practice Manager and Medical Director.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct Assistant / Technician meetings.
  • Function as a 'go to' person for the CSRs concerning medical questions and client complaints.
