About The Position

Veterinary Technician II - Sunnyslope Shelter The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full-time Shelter Veterinary Technician to work at our Sunnyslope Campus. A Day in the Life: The Shelter Veterinary Technician will assist the veterinarians in the treatment of animals and independently evaluate animals to determine adoptability. They will assist the veterinarians in all aspects of AHS clinics, including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy, and the administration of prescribed medications.

Requirements

  • High schooldiploma/GED required.
  • Preferably completion of a veterinary assisting or technician program OR experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic (2+ years required).
  • CVT not required. Education may substitute for experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary.
  • Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology.
  • Knowledgeable in anesthesiology.
  • Know veterinary medical concepts, including, but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks. Be able to communicate such information to clients.
  • Safe and humane animal handling skills are required.
  • Work well both independently and cooperatively as part of team.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and background screening to be compliant with DEA requirements for dispensing controlled drugs.
