Veterinary Technician II - Clinic Spay/Neuter The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full time dedicated and motivated Veterinary Technician to join our Marge Wright Veterinary Clinic working 4 10 hour shifts split between Monday-Friday and eventually Saturdays from 6:45 am-5:15 pm (end time can vary depending on clinic needs) . A Day in the Life: The Spay and Neuter Veterinary Technician will be responsible for working in our low cost animal clinic that Specializes in assisting veterinarians in all aspects of care for owned animals of our community. They will be responsible for AHS' Spay/Neuter and Wellness including prepping for surgery, anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, laboratory diagnostics, restraining/handling, vaccine knowledge, fluid therapy, the administration of prescribed medications (oral, IV, IM, SQ), client education and clinic asepsis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED.
  • Completion of a veterinary technician program and certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital required.
  • Expertise in phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology required.
  • Must be proficient in anesthesiology.
  • Demonstrate commitment to spay/neuter initiatives with a positive attitude.

  • Provide excellent patient care in all perioperative phases for up to 60 cats and/or dogs per day.
  • Administer injections (IV, IM, SQ) as directed by the Veterinarian.
  • Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture and administer fluids as needed.
  • Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and postoperative phases.
  • Administer microchips and fill prescriptions.
  • Stay current in knowledge of emergency drugs and protocols.
  • Communicate in effective and professional manner with public and all staff members.
  • Know veterinary medical concepts, including, but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks. Be able to communicate such information to clients.
  • Prepare home-care instructions and receipt for all services performed.
  • Fill prescriptions from veterinarian's written or verbal orders and provide clients with instructions for administration of prescriptions.
