About The Position

UT Southwestern Medical Center has a new opportunity within the Animal Resources Center for a Veterinary Technician I. Under general supervision, the successful applicant will provide technical assistance to veterinary medical and research staff in the delivery of animal health care, including veterinary medicine, surgery, and radiology, for laboratory animals. This role also supports the organization and coordination of veterinary technical tasks to ensure efficient operations and high standards of care.
The expected work schedule is Monday through Friday, daytime hours, with occasional rotational weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
This position is 100%25 onsite.

Requirements

• High School Diploma Or Equivalent
• 2 years working with animals in a clinical or research setting

Responsibilities

• Assist the ARC veterinary staff to provide research and health care support for a wide variety of species. Able to routinely work in the animal facility without direct supervision.
• Provide pre- and post-operative animal monitoring.
• Maintain animal health and study related records as required by the IACUC and ARC policy.
• Able to perform routine diagnostic testing utilizing common laboratory equipment. Examples would include internal and external parasite examinations, PCV and total protein and urinalysis.
• Work comfortably in a microbiological barrier facility as well as ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 containment areas.
• Obtain routine blood collections from research animals. Perform antigen injections and sample collections for antibody production in research animals.
• Maintain appropriate medical records as required. Assist in maintaining surveillance of investigator research protocols.
• Participate in University mandated training such as MRI, Radiation Safety and Blood Borne Pathogens.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
