About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician I to join our team, where you will assist in the treatment of animals, support professional veterinary staff, and help maintain a clean, well‑organized, and efficient service environment. The ideal candidate holds an Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, or a related field—or an equivalent combination of education and experience—and brings basic computer skills, a solid understanding of medical math, and the ability to safely and humanely handle large animal patients using fear‑free methods. Success in this role requires strong professional communication skills within a veterinary medical teaching setting, along with the ability to plan, organize, and collaborate effectively while contributing to a positive and patient‑centered care environment.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • No experience required.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical math
  • Ability to work with large animals such as swine, sheep, goats, calves, and dogs.
  • Able to appropriately handle and restrain large animal patients with methods that is fear free.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and positively with all individuals in a veterinary medical teaching hospital setting.
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Administers anesthetics, maintains anesthesia, and accurately calculates drug doses.
  • Performs perioperative monitoring and care, including intubation of patient animals, aseptic preparation of patient, monitoring their physiologic status during anesthesia, recovery of anesthetized patient.
  • Maintains accurate anesthesia records and accounting of inventory use.
  • Maintains a supply inventory and replenishes stock within the assigned service.
  • Performs maintenance service checks and minor repairs to assigned equipment.
  • Maintains equipment within the service area to include all assigned assets.
  • Prepares and maintains surgical instruments, equipment, supplies, and surgical suites for aseptic surgical procedures.
  • Assist with administration of patient medication and diet as prescribed.
  • Assists professional staff to perform critical and intensive nursing care or life-sustaining emergency care as needed.
  • Performs pain score assessments.
  • Provide skilled assistance to research personnel in proper handling of animals and research methodologies.
  • Performs or assists with the collection of patient’s blood, urine, and tissues and ensures the proper submission procedure.
  • Performs laboratory tests
  • Assists staff, clinicians, and students with laboratory sample collection.
