About The Position

The West Los Angeles Animal Hospital is a General Practice / Specialty Hospital occupying 42,000 sq feet and housing state-of-the-art equipment including a CT, MRI, and Linear Accelerator. Specialties include Oncology/Radiation Oncology, ZooMed, Cardiology, Behavior, Rehabilitation, Radiology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Emergency and Critical Care, and Internal Medicine. We are a teaching hospital with GP interns and Residents in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Emergency and Critical Care. As a key player in a team environment, the Floor Manager is responsible for the following:

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s, AAS in Veterinary Technology, or AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program (preferred).
  • Certification: Current RVT in California or ability to transfer credentials (fees covered by VCA).
  • Experience: 5+ years in veterinary nursing, with 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, proficiency in veterinary nursing (emergency care, anesthesia, radiography, etc.), and excellent communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and restrain animals when needed.
  • Professionalism: Maturity, sound judgment, and professional appearance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure smooth hospital operations and a positive workplace culture.
  • Supervise and mentor veterinary technicians, promoting team-oriented management.
  • Manage staffing schedules, ensuring shifts are filled and adjusting based on needs such as vacations, illness, or caseload changes.
  • Work with the Pharmacy Team to maintain and manage CUBEX systems.
  • Monitor staff morale, addressing concerns and providing proactive communication.
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews, rewarding achievements within budget.
  • Attend leadership meetings to discuss policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Assist in training new technical staff and ensure smooth integration into the team.
  • Address performance issues, administer disciplinary actions, and ensure accountability.
  • Collaborate with administration to identify areas for operational improvement.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all hospital departments, including doctors and customer service staff.
  • Handle client complaints as necessary and serve as the point person for overtime and on-call requests.
  • Oversee staffing needs and participate in recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Coordinate inter-departmental meetings and follow up on workload and performance issues.
  • Approve electronic timecards and manage overtime requests.
