About The Position

Completing an externship with a clinic that has its own unique identity is like a cross-country car ride with your ears flapping in the breeze. Slade Veterinary Hospital is excited to host veterinary technology students who have a passion for learning, and those looking to challenge themselves in a new environment while gaining valuable hands-on experience. At our Rarebreed clinic, you'll be able to spend extra time getting to know and treating your patients. It's the kind of freedom that feels like running at the speed of light into a 5-story pile of leaves - and that's just the beginning. While with our team for your externship, you'll have access to the latest technology and collaborate with a positive team to deliver the highest quality of care to the pet patients we all love. We love working with Veterinary Technician students! Our focus is to welcome you, as the next generation of veterinarian technicians, into our hospitals. We focus on your goals and work closely with you and the hospital teams to ensure that your essential skill practice goals are accomplished under the supervision of the veterinary technician or veterinarian that has agreed to mentor your practicum. Our goal is to work with you to ensure that we can meet the demands of your busy schedule and give you the best experience while learning with our Rarebreed veterinary team. We want you to feel supported in applying, practicing, and improving your essential skills, including your soft skills such as communication and interacting as part of a dynamic veterinary team. Students will be encouraged to have frequent conversations with their supervisor to not only track which skills need to be practiced but also those they would like to revisit. Rarebreed will also provide you with support for career development through the Student Recruitment Liaison. When you complete your practicum, we want you to feel comfortable that you've gotten the best opportunity to accomplish your program goals.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • You must present documentation from the Veterinary Technology practicum instructor or program director that outlines your learning goals and expectations for both you and the practice that supports your practicum course. That documentation must be reviewed by you as the student as well as Rarebreed prior to confirming your externship.
