About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled ER Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Golden Valley, MN. Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

Requirements

• Knowledge and skills in veterinary emergency care.
• Experience in triaging emergency cases.
• Ability to perform diagnostics and handle client communication.
• Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
• Understanding of medical math and medication administration.
• Experience in phlebotomy and catheter placement.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Proficiently perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
