Requirements

  • Current LVT I (Licensed Veterinary Technician I) status
  • Passion for dentistry
  • Ability to perform oral examinations
  • Ability to perform dental charting
  • Ability to take dental radiographs with proper positioning and technique
  • Ability to set up and assist with dental procedures and surgeries
  • Ability to perform professional dental cleanings including subgingival scaling, root planning, and curettage
  • Ability to perform effective oral nerve blocks in preparation for advanced procedures as directed by veterinarian
  • Ability to calculate basic medical math
  • Understanding of classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriate monitoring of therapeutic response
  • Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy
  • Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters
  • Ability to perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
  • Ability to induce, monitor anesthesia and recover patients
