Requirements
- Current LVT I (Licensed Veterinary Technician I) status
- Passion for dentistry
- Ability to perform oral examinations
- Ability to perform dental charting
- Ability to take dental radiographs with proper positioning and technique
- Ability to set up and assist with dental procedures and surgeries
- Ability to perform professional dental cleanings including subgingival scaling, root planning, and curettage
- Ability to perform effective oral nerve blocks in preparation for advanced procedures as directed by veterinarian
- Ability to calculate basic medical math
- Understanding of classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriate monitoring of therapeutic response
- Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
- Ability to perform phlebotomy
- Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters
- Ability to perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
- Ability to induce, monitor anesthesia and recover patients
