Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ veterinary experience required, with technical assistant experience highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail alongside excellent verbal and written communication skills with both client and team members, with the capacity to support clients in emotionally charged and sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and with little or no supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and produce quality work while making effective decisions
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology. Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous material, cleaning chemicals, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to communicate well with other CASE staff members.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages is a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Veterinary TA certification or current enrollment in a technical assistant program strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily patient care and support, including safe handling and restraint, feeding, grooming/bathing, ambulation assistance, comfort measures, and basic rehabilitation activities
  • Obtain and document basic patient parameters (e.g., TPR, weight, pain scores) and monitor patients for changes, promptly reporting concerns
  • Assist with routine patient care and recovery support, providing comfort measures and basic care as needed.
  • Apply Fear Free® and low-stress handling techniques to support patient welfare
  • Assist with diagnostic testing and sample handling, including in-house and external laboratory preparation, and point-of-care testing
  • Support imaging services through patient preparation, positioning, and image acquisition, in accordance with training, supervision, and hospital protocols.
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians/nurses during treatments, procedures, and surgeries, including patient preparation, recovery support, and medical documentation
  • Provide support during emergency and critical care situations by assisting with patient handling, equipment readiness, and directed basic life support tasks
  • Administer oral, ocular, and aural medications
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of clinical spaces, including exam rooms, treatment areas, surgical suites, and isolation areas
  • Clean, maintain, and prepare medical and surgical equipment; operate sterilization equipment; prepare instrument packs; and support procedural setup
  • Manage stocking, inventory support, biomedical waste disposal, and maintenance of emergency equipment
  • Assist with client-facing processes, including patient intake, history collection, rooming, admissions, routine discharges, appointment scheduling, and basic follow-up communication under guidance
  • Support accurate medical record maintenance and discharge checklist completion
  • Follow all hospital policies and protocols, including those related to safety and infection control
  • Perform duties within defined role scope, training, and applicable state or provincial regulations
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, teamwork, and accountability in daily work
  • Contribute to a collaborative learning environment by sharing knowledge, experience, and best practices
