About The Position

United Veterinary Care is excited to offer veterinary students the opportunity to participate in externships at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists. This externship is designed for students currently enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary schools, particularly those in their clinical years, typically the 3rd or 4th year. The externship provides a valuable clinical experience that allows students to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world animal hospital setting. Students will have the chance to work alongside a highly skilled support team and specialists in various fields, including Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, and more. Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists operates two facilities located in Buzzards Bay and Dennis, providing 24/7 care. The externship program is tailored to meet the individual interests of each student, allowing them to focus on specific areas of veterinary medicine or explore multiple specialties. The externship is not only a chance to gain hands-on experience but also to engage in continuous learning and development, with opportunities to participate in case discussions and mentorship from experienced veterinarians. Students are encouraged to actively participate in cases, conduct preliminary exams, and formulate diagnostic and treatment plans, all under the supervision of skilled professionals. To make the externship accessible, stipends are offered to help offset travel and lodging expenses, unless restricted by the student's veterinary school. Students must provide proof of professional liability insurance, with SAVMA members qualifying for no-cost insurance. This externship is an excellent opportunity for veterinary students to immerse themselves in the world of specialty and emergency medicine while being part of a dedicated and engaged team.
