About The Position

The pharmacy technician is an important position within the Veterinary Hospital and Pharmacy Department. This person will assist the Pharmacist in operating all phases of the University of Florida Veterinary Hospitals Pharmacy. The Pharmacy supports the entire hospital. The pharmacy technician: 1. Assists with maintaining OMNICELL pharmaceutical and supply inventory and reconciling OMNICELL transactions. Assess inventory levels of supply products. Order supplies and restock supplies in OMNICELLs. 2. Assists in dispensing prescribed drugs for veterinary patients, which includes labeling, pricing, data entry, sterile and nonsterile compounding, and communications with clients. 3. Delivers drugs for inpatient fills to patient care areas. 4. Familiarize and assist students, residents, and clinicians with available veterinary pharmaceuticals and supplies. 5. Assists in ordering, maintaining and estimating demand for pharmaceutical inventories. 6. Assists in maintaining Pharmacy files and records, as required by State and Federal Law, and by Pharmacy policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and six months of pharmacy experience.
  • Current Florida Pharmacy Technician license required.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, bend, kneel, pull, push, twist and stand for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

  • A Florida Pharmacy Technician License is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally (telephone and person-to-person); as well as good literacy skills (ability to read and compose grammatically correct sentences) are critical to success on this position.
  • Strong mathematical skills-addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are a necessity. Must be able to use calculator. Demonstrates the ability to accurately perform algebraic equations.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work in data bases (Excel) and word processing programs (Word).
  • Must be able to work in close environment under direct supervision for an eight hour work day.
  • Prior pharmacy experience: 2 years of related pharmacy experience strongly preferred. Veterinary Pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
  • A high school diploma. Appropriate college coursework or Vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Excellent Customer service skills
