About The Position

Provides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Large Animal Anesthesia Department of the Veterinary Medical Center. The Large Animal Anesthesia Department work’s with a variety of large animal species including equine, porcine, caprine, ovine and more. This position will utilize LVTs or LVN’s for their technical abilities and knowledge acquired through school. Some job responsibilities include techniques related to performing anesthesia (IVC placement, Intubation, Monitoring, Medication Injection, and Recovery). Along with pre & post operative patient care on a variety of species while instructing and demonstrating these techniques to students. Requirements

  • Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology
  • six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug dosing, and sterilization
  • experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software
  • May require experience in a veterinary hospital research setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a veterinary technician in an educational setting.
  • Experience in extensive patient care, emergency/critical care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterile techniques.
  • Experience in electronic medical records software or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
