We are seeking skilled Veterinary Medical Assistants who are eager to apply their training and experience in a professional environment. About Our Practice: West Loop Veterinary Care is a state-of-the-art, AAHA-accredited, Cat Friendly, and Fear Free Certified practice in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. Our compassionate team is dedicated to building strong relationships and delivering exceptional care to pets and their families. We foster a positive environment with a collaborative team that includes Hospital Attendants, Patient Care Coordinators, Veterinary Assistants, Veterinary Medical Assistants and Certified Veterinary Technicians. About the Role: We are seeking a full-time Veterinary Medical Assistant passionate about animal care and client service. You’ll handle patient care, client communication, surgery monitoring, lab procedures, and ensure hospital cleanliness. We provide the tools and training to help you thrive in every area of our hospital.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in surgical prep, IV catheter placement, digital radiology, and lab procedures
  • Interest in dental and oral healthcare
  • Strong communication and client-service skills
  • Flexibility for evenings and weekends
  • Positive, can-do attitude

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two years of experience in a small-animal veterinary setting

Responsibilities

  • Educate clients on preventative healthcare recommendations and provide follow up.
  • Communicate any patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples, perform in-house laboratory tests, and prepare all forms to be sent to outside labs.
  • Admit and discharge patients to hospital by following all admission and discharge protocols.
  • Must have proficient knowledge of practice software for dispensing veterinarian approved medication, patient food, printing treatment sheets, discharge instructions, cage card labels, x ray and lab labels, recording communication with client and doctors, and others as directed by veterinarian.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by the veterinarian.
  • Perform tech appointments, such ear cleaning, anal gland expression, routine lab work, subcutaneous fluids, etc. as deemed appropriate by practice
  • Assist doctors in medical and diagnostic procedures.
  • Place IV catheters and begin fluid therapy when required by the veterinarian.
