About The Position

As a vital member of Magnolia Veterinary Hospital, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional patient care to animals requiring intensive monitoring and treatment during overnight hours. We're looking for a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Veterinary ICU Assistant to join our overnight emergency care team and help make a difference when it matters most. As an Overnight ICU Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians in caring for hospitalized and critical patients throughout the night. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and passionate about animal care-especially during crucial moments. Common ICU Cases You'll Encounter: We're looking for someone with a basic working knowledge of critical care situations typically seen in veterinary ICU, including: Trauma cases - such as vehicular injuries or bite wounds requiring fluid resuscitation and close monitoring Post-operative care - especially for patients recovering from emergency surgeries (e.g., foreign body removal, splenectomy) Sepsis and shock - monitoring vital trends and assisting in stabilization protocols Respiratory distress - including patients on oxygen cages or nebulization therapy Toxin ingestion - assisting with decontamination and supportive care Pancreatitis and GI emergencies - managing nausea, vomiting, and rehydration therapy Neurological events - such as seizures or vestibular disease requiring observation

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of veterinary assistant experience, preferably in emergency or critical care settings.
  • Comfortable working independently during overnight shifts.
  • Knowledge of veterinary terminology, patient restraint, and ICU protocols.
  • Ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong observational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift 40+ lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and document patient vitals (TPR, CRT, behavior changes).
  • Assist with administering medications and fluid therapy under supervision.
  • Support in emergency procedures and surgical prep as needed.
  • Keep the ICU area clean, stocked, and organized.
  • Provide comfort and compassionate care to patients overnight.
  • Communicate effectively with the medical team about patient status.
