About The Position

Assist the veterinarian in maintaining the health of the animal species housed at Inotiv Evansville. Position Requirements- INTERNSHIP only. Education and experience Must be actively enrolled to a school in the field of Veterinary Care. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Animal Science or related field RVT preferred AALAS certification or ALAT preferred Laboratory animal experience and experience with in vivo preclinical studies at a CRO or pharmaceutical company preferred. Manual dexterity to catch and hold animals. Working Conditions Frequent involvement with radiant/electrical energy, solvents, grease, oil, irritants, acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals, electro-mechanical hazards, flammable materials and biohazards. Due to exposure to hazardous biological materials (which may include HIV positive specimens), immunization to diseases may be a required Will be exposed to animal dander, bites, scratches, etc., and material associated with animal husbandry Able to wear latex gloves, dust musk and/or respirator, and safety glasses as required. The noise level is usually moderate to loud requiring ear protection Mantoux TB test with negative result is required Tools, Equipment, & Other Resources Used Various software applications sustained by a Windows platform. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Autoclaves, sterilizers, electronic scales/balances, clippers, shavers, vented hoods, and other surgical utilities (e.g. stereotaxic frames). Responsibilities and Duties Performs daily health assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and clinical treatment of laboratory animals Operate and maintain medical and laboratory equipment (e.g. anesthetic machines, ECG machines) of varying complexity Read, understand, and follow a study protocol Follow and collaborate on detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) in a highly regulated environment meeting or exceeding industry standards (USDA, FDA GLP) Provides daily clinical veterinary care (medical treatments, diagnostic, and technical procedures for stock and research animals and maintain appropriate documentation) Field and triage after hour phone calls Handle and restrain laboratory animals Provides surgical preparation and assistance including administration of anesthesia, surgical preparation, and peri-operative care Perform dental prophylaxis Assist in training of other employees when requested Maintain records of controlled chemical substances in accordance with federal regulations Maintain a working inventory of veterinary supplies needed to maintain the health and welfare of the animals Inform the Veterinarian of any issues affecting the conduct of preclinical studies Participate in in-house training programs Maintain confidential information Interact with the community and employees Support and participate in other company initiatives as directed by management Perform other duties as assigned #LI-MP1 #LI-Onsite This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.
