Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service with clients by listening to their concerns and addressing them professionally
  • Ensure that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable
  • Serve as 'Ambassadors' - creating and maintaining goodwill for the hospital
  • Present and explain client education materials, nutrition, discharge instructions, medication administration, and answer general questions about treatments, bandages, laboratory tests, medications
  • Present and explain treatment plans/estimates as needed
  • Exercising technician skills based on hospital needs, including IV catheter placement, cystocentesis, venipuncture, fluid pump setup, and monitoring
  • Assist the Veterinarian in medical, surgical procedures; prepare patients for surgery; administer anesthesia; monitor patients during surgery and recovery; administer fluids
  • Draw blood samples
  • Collect stool and urine samples
  • Keep medical records accurate and up to date, including client records, medical history, treatment sheets, medications administered, patient observations, etc.

Requirements

  • Experience in veterinary assistance or related field
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to perform technical veterinary procedures such as blood sampling and catheter placement
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate medical records

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with exotic animals
  • Knowledge of veterinary software systems
  • Certification as a veterinary assistant or technician
