About The Position

The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure high-quality veterinary care for pets. This position involves advocating for pet health, educating clients, and maintaining a safe and effective hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks simultaneously under distracting conditions.
  • Strong communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking fluent English.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and systematic approach in carrying out assignments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify, analyze, and solve problems effectively.
  • Excellent client service skills to ensure attentive and courteous service.
  • Intellectual ability to follow instructions accurately and provide directions.
  • Mathematical ability to perform basic calculations and conversions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including specialized medical software and Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in customer service preferred.
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the extra eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure the best quality pet care.
  • Communicate with veterinarian, veterinary technicians, and all other associates to maintain the flow of patients.
  • Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service at all times, including performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance.
  • Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services, and other issues.
  • Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical charts.
  • Ensure the safety of pets, clients, and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques and maintaining clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas.
  • Assist with surgery as applicable.
  • Utilize technical skills to the fullest, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties.
  • Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
