About The Position

The Veterinary Assistant supports the veterinary team in delivering high-quality preventive care and treatment for pets. This role involves assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians, maintaining a clean and organized hospital environment, and providing excellent client service to pet owners.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately, even in stressful situations
  • Basic knowledge of animal behavior and care
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with animals preferred (veterinary clinic, shelter, kennel, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Restrain pets safely and compassionately for examinations and medical procedures
  • Prepare exam rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas
  • Clean and sterilize medical equipment and maintain hospital cleanliness
  • Feed, walk, and monitor hospitalized pets
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples (e.g., blood, urine, fecal samples)
  • Administer medications under veterinary supervision as permitted
  • Maintain accurate patient records and update client information
  • Provide clear communication and education to pet owners regarding care and follow-up
  • Support front desk duties as needed, including scheduling and client check-in/check-out
