About The Position

PetVet Care Centers' Highland Animal Hospital is seeking a motivated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This position plays an important role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians in providing high-quality patient care while ensuring a safe and positive experience for both clients and their pets. The veterinary assistant provides support to the veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service. The ideal candidate is confident working in a fast-paced clinical environment, has strong animal handling skills, and demonstrates a commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and excellent client service.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience working as a Veterinary Assistant in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting.
  • Strong animal handling and restraint skills, including the ability to safely manage fearful or reactive patients.
  • Experience performing blood draws and assisting with routine diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR certification (current or ability to obtain).
  • Experience with Cornerstone EMR or other veterinary practice management systems.
  • Knowledge of proper muzzle application and safe restraint techniques when necessary.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic X-rays following completion of hospital-provided training and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, examinations, and treatments.
  • Safely handle and restrain animals during exams, procedures, and diagnostics.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures including blood draws and radiographs.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Ensure accurate patient records are maintained within the hospital’s electronic medical record system.
  • Support a positive client experience through professionalism and clear communication.
  • Follow all hospital safety protocols and patient handling guidelines.
