About The Position

Sirius Veterinary Orthopedic Center (Sirius Vet) is the first of its kind in the Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs metro area. We are a cutting-edge veterinary practice committed to delivering outstanding care to beloved pets. As a referral-only clinic, we specialize in orthopedic procedures designed to restore comfort, mobility, and overall health for small animals. Position Summary: The Veterinary Hospital Assistant supports all departments by using all available resources, learned skills, and communication skills to provide great patient care. A veterinary hospital assistant is well-versed in the basic responsibilities of all departments. They are to help and assist with appointments, exams, surgical procedures, or recovery. This individual possesses the ability to remain versatile and positive and be a part of a strong team. The Veterinary Hospital Assistant supports the Doctor's Assistant during all patient appointments. The Veterinary Hospital Assistant will provide pre-and post-operative care to help ensure a positive outcome for all surgical patients.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in end-of-day closing duties
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Perform additional duties as instructed by the floor supervisors and management team
  • Participate in Morning/end-of-day rounds as available
  • Communicate inventory needs to the appropriate personnel by updating the Want List via Google Sheets
  • Assist CCRs with cleaning exam rooms (wiping tables, chairs, sweeping, trash, etc.)
  • Assist DAs with filling medications for IN-HOUSE patients
  • Assist DAs with rechecking appointments and consults as needed.
  • Provide exceptional care to all patients on a surgical day.
  • Effectively communicate with team members and relay pertinent information regarding patient status.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Assist with the appointment staff when needed
  • Perform any rehabilitation/physical therapy treatments when needed

  • Feeding/watering of patients and ensuring the appropriate diet is followed
  • Help prepare patients for discharge by utilizing the discharge checklist in the patient's folder.
  • Walk discharged patients out to pet owners if the discharge technician is not available
  • Assist with housekeeping duties, walking patients, cleaning kennels/runs, etc.
  • Carry out all orders and directions from the DVM or LVT promptly
  • Hold and restrain animals safely during exams and treatments
  • Prepare patients for surgery by clipping and performing a dirty scrub before moving into the OR
  • Maintain a clean and sterile work environment in the OR
  • Assist LVTs with post-operative nursing care of all patients
  • Knowledge of proper sterilization techniques and circumstances that could compromise the sterility of equipment (storage techniques, wet packs, proper wrapping, etc.)
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Communicate necessary changes to surgical packs when necessary
