About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Experienced Veterinary Assistant (VA) to join our Medical Oncology department. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality care to animals, with a specific focus on Medical Oncology. As an integral part of our team, you will work closely with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and other staff members to ensure the well-being of our patients. Compensation : $20 -25 / hour ALL dependent on education, experience, credentials, location, nature of practice, schedule, and additional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine as a Veterinary Assistant
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and common conditions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards animals and their owners.
  • Venipuncture
  • Catheter placement

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with chemotherapy drugs and safety protocols (Preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with physical examinations, patient assessment, and collecting patient histories
  • Managing medical records, reports, and correspondence
  • Collecting detailed patient histories at check-in for oncology consults
  • Processing laboratory samples in-house
  • Preparing laboratory samples for outside labs
  • Assist with Radiographs
  • Assist with patient recovery
  • Venipuncture/catheter placement
  • Safe animal restraint and handling
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Effective verbal, listening, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members of all hospital services

  • Obtain detailed medical histories and patient vitals
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records
  • Assisting our Doctor and Technical staff as needed with patient care
  • Helping clients and doctors during humane euthanasia’s
  • Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols, handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriately
  • Maintain inventory and supplies for procedures and patient husbandry.
  • Administering chemotherapy drugs and safety protocols
