POSITION SUMMARY The Veterinary Assistant supports and assists our Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians, ensuring the safety of pets and clients while maintaining the highest quality of veterinary care. They play a vital role in keeping pets safe, comfortable, and well-cared for throughout their visit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Broad knowledge of animal science, basic pharmacology, and veterinary procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and industry-related software/sites.
  • Strong written, verbal, and active listening skills with a client-focused approach.
  • Attention to detail and high-level accuracy in medical documentation and patient care.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Problem-solving skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Professional, compassionate, and tactful communication with clients and team members.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Compassion and empathy for both pets and pet owners.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred
  • One year of experience in a pet care setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming environment that fosters teamwork and upholds our core values.
  • Maintain a clean, disinfected, and prepared environment, including exam rooms, surgical areas, and equipment.
  • Collect patient history, obtain vital signs, and document medical records accurately.
  • Comfort, restrain, and monitor pets during exams and procedures.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical prep.
  • Obtain and prepare samples for laboratory testing, perform in-house tests, and update patient records.
  • Educate pet owners on post-treatment care and general pet health under the veterinarian’s guidance.
  • Monitor and track patient conditions, especially post-surgery or hospitalization.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Keep cages, runs, and boarding areas clean and comfortable for our furry guests.
  • Ensure exceptional client service by answering questions, providing resources, and anticipating needs.
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment.
  • Support a collaborative, compassionate workplace dedicated to the well-being of pets and their owners.
  • Comply with all practice policies, quality assurance guidelines, and minimum standards of care
