About The Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Medical Center seeks a Veterinary Assistant to join the Radiology Ultrasound team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in the provision of care to ill and injured animals as wells a providing assistance to clinicians, staff and professional students in the days to day operations of the Veterinary Medical Center.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• 0 years of relevant experience required.

Nice To Haves

• 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• providing basic patient care functions
• assisting in the collection of lab specimens such as blood, urine, and feces for testing
• assisting with patient assessment, restraint and treatments
• assisting with training student employees in prescribed care of animals
• comforting and caring for hospitalized animal patients
• walking patients and providing clean housing, food, and water at all times
• monitoring patients and notifying higher level technician or veterinarian of any unusual changes or symptoms
• transporting patients within the Veterinary Medical Center
• stocking supplies including feed, medical supplies and equipment
• cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas, animals housing units, adjacent areas and supporting equipment following prescribed sanitation procedures and observing rules of epidemiology to prevent spread of disease
• carrying out prescribed bedding
• performing daily cleaning of outdoor dog exercise areas and VMC entrances
• cleaning of all animal areas including windows, floors, light covers, ledges, hallways, vents, receiving rooms etc.
• notifying supervisor of need for non-routine repairs
• assisting with laundry
• providing clerical support when necessary
• other duties as assigned
