About The Position

VCA River City Animal Hospital is looking for a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our dedicated and collaborative team. The starting range for compensation is determined by skill set and years of experience in the field, with financial growth opportunities available. Requirements

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
• Proficiency in animal restraint and basic medical procedures.
• Familiarity with veterinary software and medical equipment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting while providing compassionate patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during examinations and medical procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Perform patient intakes and discharge processes, including accurate record-keeping.
• Administer medications and provide support for treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
• Assist with restraint and handling of animals during exams and treatments.
• Perform surgical tasks, including placing IV catheters, venipuncture, intubation, and monitoring anesthesia during procedures.
• Support the surgical team in preparation, monitoring, and post-operative care of patients.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, exam rooms, and surgical suites.
• Perform basic diagnostic tests, such as TPRs (temperature, pulse, respiration) and sample collection.
• Educate and communicate effectively with clients regarding care instructions and patient needs.
• Uphold the hospital's safety standards and ensure compliance with procedures and protocols.
