About The Position

VCA Big Lake Animal Hospital, located on the outskirts of Wasilla, AK, is looking for Veterinary Assistants to join our 3-doctor General Practice! We need experienced Veterinary Assistants who would like to provide excellent patient care with a focus on wellness and client education. This Veterinary Assistant would have 2+ years of experience in the field. Veterinary Assistants are responsible for preparing exam rooms for the doctors and assisting in providing care for the patients hospitalized in the treatment area. Schedule: Part-time opportunity. Flexible schedule. We are open Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm, with some Saturdays required. Ability to work into a full-time position. Compensation: The pay range for this position is $21.00-25.00 / hour. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some Saturdays
• Strong communication skills
• Compassionate care for animals

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Preparing exam rooms for the doctors
• Assisting in providing care for hospitalized patients
• Restraining and assisting in patient exams and routine procedures
• Taking detailed medical histories and patient vitals
• Filling prescriptions (as allowed by law)
• Performing laboratory work and diagnostic imaging
• Providing compassionate care for hospitalized animals
• Maintaining medical records
• Assisting doctors with exams, treatments, and procedures
• Venipuncture and IVC placement
• Administering SQ fluids, medications, etc.
• Working in conjunction with all technical staff to ensure hospitalized patients receive the best possible care
• Recognizing subtle changes in clinical status
• Providing discharge instructions to clients
• Completing estimates and basic record keeping
• Surgical preparation and assisting
• Anesthesia monitoring
• Dentistry and dental radiographs
