About The Position

BluePearl in is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant for our Surgery Department! As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. You will be proficient in instrument and sterilization processing, prepping surgical cases and operating room etiquette. You will perform physical exams, accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort, and understand normal vital parameters to alert the doctor when abnormal. You will also be able to set up intravenous fluids, perform orthopedic radiographs, operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps, troubleshoot errors, and communicate effectively with clients in the exam room environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Proficient in instrument and sterilization processing, prepping surgical cases and operating room etiquette.
• Perform physical exams and accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids.
• Perform orthopedic radiographs.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Communicate effectively with clients in exam room environment.
