About The Position

BluePearl is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant for our Surgery Department! As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. You will be proficient in instrument and sterilization processing, prepping surgical cases, and operating room etiquette. Your responsibilities will include performing physical exams, accurately counting heart and pulse rates, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort, and understanding normal vital parameters to alert the doctor when abnormal. You will also be able to set up intravenous fluids, perform orthopedic radiographs, operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps, troubleshoot errors, and communicate effectively with clients in the exam room environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Proficient in instrument and sterilization processing, prepping surgical cases, and operating room etiquette.
• Perform physical exams and accurately count heart and pulse rates, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids and perform orthopedic radiographs.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Communicate effectively with clients in the exam room environment.
