About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Veterinary Assistant to work in our thriving Emergency and Critical Care department at our Buffalo, NY location. The position involves providing nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values, reporting patient signalment, and understanding medication classifications. The schedule includes overnight shifts, 3x12 hour shifts from 7pm to 7am, with flexibility between Thursday and Monday, but weekend availability is required.

Requirements

• Experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role.
• Ability to work overnight shifts and weekends.
• Knowledge of veterinary nursing care and procedures.
• Familiarity with medication classifications and administration.

Nice To Haves

• Certification as a Veterinary Technician.
• Experience in emergency and critical care settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness.
• Perform physical exams and accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
• Perform additional relevant job duties as required.
