About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced Emergency Overnight team! The position involves working 3x12 hour shifts from 7pm to 7am, either Thursday to Saturday or Friday to Sunday. The pay ranges from $21.25 to $31.00 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Competitive shift differential pay is also offered for eligible hours worked during nights and weekends.

Requirements

• Knowledge and skills in veterinary assistance.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• Experience with triaging emergency cases.
• Familiarity with diagnostics and patient care in a veterinary setting.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in specialty veterinary care.
• Certification as a Veterinary Technician or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
• Perform diagnostics including radiographs and lab work.
• Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward and discharge patients.
• Handle client communication.
• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exams and accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
