About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight ER Veterinary Assistant to join our team! The schedule is Thursday-Saturday, 8pm-8am + 4 hours on Wednesday. Training could be between 2-4 weeks with a swing shift schedule (11a-11p or 12p-12a). The pay range is $22.50 - $32.80 per hour, dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

Requirements

• Knowledge of veterinary medicine and emergency care.
• Ability to perform physical exams and diagnostics.
• Experience in client communication and triage.
• Ability to work overnight shifts and maintain a flexible schedule.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in a similar role.
• Certification as a veterinary technician or assistant.
• Familiarity with emergency veterinary procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist with nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in our ER, ICU and other designated areas for the role.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT.
• Perform radiography and lab work.
• Perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Engage with clients by performing triages, going over estimates and providing discharge instructions.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
