About The Position

Highlands Ranch Animal Hospital is seeking a qualified Veterinary Assistant or Technician to join our growing team in Carmel Valley, San Diego. This full-time position requires a compassionate and motivated individual with a minimum of 2 years of veterinary experience. The role involves providing excellent care to pets and their owners, maintaining medical records, and assisting in various veterinary procedures in a supportive and fun working environment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of veterinary experience.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a busy environment.
• Patience and a love for animals.
• Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a similar role.
• Knowledge of animal care and handling.

• Working knowledge of Cornerstone software.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to patients and clients.
• Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy.
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.
• Perform physical assessments and record observations legibly.
• Effectively restrain pets, including large or difficult animals.
• Explain common vaccines and vaccination protocols to clients.
• Ensure a clean and orderly facility, performing cleaning and organizing tasks as needed.
• Maintain positive relationships with other employees.
• Prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients.
• Explain necessary follow-up and homecare instructions to clients.
• Care for surgical materials and equipment, keeping the operating room prepared for surgery.
• Set up clinical laboratory procedures and maintain files of lab test results.
• Position for and take radiographs as needed.
• Understand the use and care of IV pumps.
• Admit and discharge patients following hospital policy and veterinarian's orders.
• Perform minimal receptionist duties when needed.
