About The Position

The ideal role of this Veterinary Assistant is to serve as an extension of our Internists and Technicians while working as a team for the benefit of patient and client care. This VA will have an active role in client communication including communication of diagnostic results and procedures as dictated by the Internist, diagnostic and procedural organization, and facilitation, and assist in the short- and long-term management of their patients. This candidate ideally has a basic understanding of the various diseases seen in Internal Medicine and must possess a strong passion and motivation for further learning. Diagnostic procedures this technician will assist in include but are not limited to endoscopy (urinary, respiratory, gastrointestinal), bone marrow sampling, joint taps, and feeding tube placements. The goal is that this technician will be proficient in all procedures and gain the opportunity to be trained in interventional radiology procedures such as laser ablation of ectopic ureters and lithotripsy.

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician
  • Will consider candidates with 2+ years veterinary assistant experience or currently enrolled in veterinary program for a veterinary assistant position in the department
  • Providing empathy, comfort, and unparalleled nursing care to all patients and their owners

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to deliver exceptional client service is expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with anesthesia and endoscopy is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assignment to a doctor to facilitate scheduled appointments
  • Basic medical record documentation
  • Client communication in person, phone and email
  • Scheduling follow up appointments & assisting assigned doctor with all client needs
  • Performing basic animal restraint and patient care
  • Assisting with and taking radiographs
  • Prepping patients for ultrasound
  • Admitting and discharging patients
  • Ensuring cleanliness of the exam rooms, treatment areas and equipment
  • Maintaining inventory of IM specific supplies
