About The Position

Advanced Veterinary Specialists, located in scenic Santa Barbara, is a premier specialty and emergency veterinary hospital committed to providing exceptional care to pets in need. We offer a range of specialized services, including internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, oncology, and emergency care, delivered by a team of dedicated professionals. We are currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our Internal Medicine team. The successful candidate will work closely with our board-certified Internists to provide high-quality care to patients with complex medical conditions.

Requirements

  • General understanding and experience with small animal restraint with a focus on cats and dogs
  • High school diploma
  • Calm, professional demeanor
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable time management and problem-solving skills; working efficiently and effectively throughout the hospital
  • Multi-task various duties and responsibilities in a timely and reliable manner, with appropriate follow-through and accuracy
  • Understand and follow established hospital processes and procedures (i.e. SOPs)
  • Able to work well independently as well as with a team
  • Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in a veterinary technology program
  • Clinical experience working/interning in a veterinary hospital

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care and monitoring for animals admitted to the internal medicine department
  • Assist with a variety of diagnostic procedures
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners, offering guidance on their animal's condition and treatment options
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure equipment is properly maintained and sterilized
  • Assist veterinarians during procedures such as biopsies and aspiration cytology
  • Collaborate closely with other veterinary professionals to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Advocate for the well-being of patients, ensuring they receive appropriate care and treatment
  • Other duties as assigned
