About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant for our 24/7 Emergency department. This position offers both part-time and full-time schedules, with a pay band ranging from $21.25 to $31.45 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through the Kahuna leveling system. Competitive shift differential pay is also available for eligible hours worked during nights and weekends.

• Certification in veterinary assistance or related field.

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
• Perform diagnostics including radiographs and lab work.
• Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward and discharge patients.
• Handle client communication.
• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform physical exams, accurately counting heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
