About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Veterinary Assistant to work in our thriving Emergency and Critical Care department at our Buffalo, NY location. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. This position requires weekend availability and offers a flexible schedule between Thursday and Monday, with day shifts consisting of 3x12 hour shifts from 7am to 7pm.

Requirements

• Experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
• Knowledge of commonly-used medications and their side effects.
• Proficiency in performing physical exams and monitoring vital signs.
• Familiarity with anesthesia and monitoring equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Certification as a Veterinary Technician.
• Experience in emergency and critical care settings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness.
• Perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
• Perform additional relevant job duties.
