About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Port Washington, WI is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment. You will triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. You will perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients. A complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation is required. You will obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert the Veterinarian to changes and issues. You will identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR. Proper calculation of medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administration of medications via appropriate routes and duration is essential. You should be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels, as well as placing and maintaining feeding tubes and central line catheters. A passion for mentoring and training other co-workers, along with patience and empathy to address client concerns, is also important.
