About The Position

Responsible for performing routine animal care and related duties at the Garland Animal Services’ Adoption Center and animal shelter including: medical evaluations, behavior evaluation, cleaning and maintaining kennel areas, socializing with adoptable animals and assisting citizens interested in adoption. Performs medical treatments, diagnostic tests, assists in surgery and providing daily routine care for animals in medical holding. Pay Range: $15.54 - $22.96 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Work Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Sunday through Wednesday,

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) equivalent
  • Customer service experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting departmental medical evaluations for pets placed in adoption program
  • Assist in overseeing shelter medical services operations, including, but not limited to animal medical treatments, diagnostic testing, daily shelter surgeries, surgery appointments, vet check rounds, as well as the general care of animals under veterinary care.
  • Maintain proper inventory level of food, cleaning and other supplies.
  • Notify Supervisor when restocking items from shelter is needed.
  • Perform kennel cleaning and other related housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and supplies and report any problems or needed repairs to Shelter Manager.
  • Works under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian employed by the City of Garland.
  • Assist with other shelter duties as needed.
