Veterinarian Tech - Part Time

About The Position

Assist a licensed Veterinarian in performing basic animal care, medical treatment and surgical practices and help in ensuring animal health and welfare is maintained in the shelter.

Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
1 year experience in this or related field
Valid Class I Driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Knowledge of the safe handling and general welfare of large and small animals.
Knowledge of pertinent animal control laws, regulations and ordinances.
Basic knowledge of animal behavior
Basic knowledge of health conditions of large and small animals
Knowledge of basic medical procedures in small animals, including venipuncture, surgery and administrating medications
Knowledge of work hazards.
Ability to care for animals.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, other employees and to deal with the public in a courteous and pleasant manner.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a high-volume spay/neuter clinic preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Assist in basic veterinary practices such as de-worming, vaccinations, physical exams and other animal health related activities.
Prepare treatment room for animal examinations and medical treatments.
Assist with and occasionally perform euthanasia.
Assist vet with basic surgeries and anesthesia monitoring and injecting medications.
Maintain inventory of supplies.
Assist veterinarian with training of new support staff
Maintain accurate medical records as required by law
Assist veterinarian and animal control officers with cruelty investigations and forensic exams as needed
Perform regular medical walk throughs.
Perform daily medication administration.
Assist with Preoperative care, including monitoring recovery and administering medication.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Performs other related duties as required.
