About The Position

The Veterans Service Officer (VSO) is an essential role within the Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County, responsible for providing vital information and assistance to veterans, their dependents, and survivors regarding various health, financial, and educational matters. This full-time position requires a dedicated individual who can perform each essential duty satisfactorily, ensuring that veterans receive the support they need in navigating the complexities of federal and state benefits programs. In this role, the VSO will provide technical assistance to veterans and their families by responding to inquiries and delivering requested information through various communication channels, including telephone, mail, and in-person meetings. The officer will assist eligible veterans in completing federal benefit application forms accurately and will conduct thorough research to determine applicable laws, eligibility requirements, and claim statuses as necessary. Maintaining current knowledge of available resources for veterans, including local healthcare services, rehabilitation programs, and educational opportunities, is crucial for the success of this position. The VSO will also be required to attend meetings, training sessions, and informational seminars to stay updated on best practices and changes in veterans' services. This position demands a high level of professionalism, as the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all employer and department policies.
